One of the world’s great steam locomotives, modelled in 1:24 scale. Over 1,000 huge, 78-ton 2-8-2 D51 locomotives were built for the Japanese National Railways (JNR) and Japanese Government Railways in the 10 years before the end of World War II. The ‘D’ in the name refers to the four sets of driving axles and the number ‘51’ identifies it as a tender locomotive. These were Japan’s first standardized modern engines and were used mainly for hauling freight. Based on the earlier D50, the more advanced D51 was built in larger numbers than any other class of locomotive made in Japan. This amazingly detailed 1:24-scale model is mainly constructed from solid brass, with white-metal die-castings. The completed model is nearly 90cm long (including the tender) and weighs over 10 kilos. The model includes working lights, a whistle and steam sound effects. You can choose to paint the model black like the real locomotive, or leave it with a bare finish to highlight the metalwork.
