Description:
WIKING made it the successor to the double-decker bus D2U by Büssing, which had become a legend in Berlin: MAN used the IAA auto show in 1973 as a platform to announce an entirely new generation of buses – and it entered into service for the BVG soon thereafter. The “standard double-decker” SD 200 brought the lorry makers’ modernization of their series for regular passenger service to its conclusion. Taking charge of production, body manufacturer Gaubschat in Berlin applied their experience and tied the new series in with its predecessor. O&K and Waggon Union followed later. The prototype was able to accommodate 35 passengers on the lower deck and offered 53 seats on the upper deck. As a matter of fact, the D2U was history by the end of the seventies – and the SD 200 was changing the face of Berlin’s streets. Recognising the development taking place right before the gates of his headquarters at Unter den Eichen 101, WIKING head Fritz Peltzer was quick to launch a model of the vehicle.

Body beige. Interior red-brown, chassis anthracite grey. Inserted black steering wheel, beige grey bus driver with hand-painted face. Bus front with silver radiator grille and silver MAN and Büssing lettering plus headlamps painted silver. Surrounds of the window profiles and windscreen wipers imprinted black. Destination signs with place sign Zehlendorf and line number 1. All-around, multi-coloured advertising Möbel-Hübner.
