All that fledgling drivers had to do to enjoy open-air fun and demonstrate their love for their first car was roll back the folding roof. There is no other “student rattle trap” that has earned the same legendary status as the Citroën 2 CV – and no one who rode in it will ever forget the, at times, frightening rocking the vehicle displayed in curves. In Germany, after starting out as an ordinary everyday auto from France in the postwar years, the “Duck” managed to rise to cult status among the students of the 1970s - pure Flower Power. Cramped space, limited performance and poor handling in curves were touted as advantages of the “Duck” by its drivers, despite all the flak from its detractors - the 1:1 original of the 2 CV was just as beloved as its 1:87 miniaturisation.
