The Ford Mustang is not just a car – it is a rolling piece of American freedom and the archetype of the attitude towards life that characterised the sixties. If you talk about legendary dream cars of this era, you simply cannot omit the Mustang. It became an immediate hit as soon as it starting off the production line for the first time in April 1964. Practically inventing the class of sporty-chic “pony cars” in the process, Ford landed a gigantic surprise success with the first generation of their new model. Nearly 680,000 units were sold in the first year – a record that is still unbeaten in the United States today. Ford had obviously hit the nerve of the time - a nerve that no one before knew even existed.
