Adoringly counted among the “Düsseldorf Transporter” or, simply, the “Düdo” series, the Mercedes-Benz L 608 enjoys the esteem of a modern classic. Introduced in the late sixties, this indestructible light-duty truck shaped the roadscape for decades. Especially in its refrigerated version, the L 608 demonstrated its singular abilities and became an indispensable partner for inner-city fresh food transport. Today, the L 608 has virtually disappeared as a refrigerated truck in everyday commercial use. Rust and low-emission zones have decimated the stocks. However, well-preserved examples are in great demand in the antique car scene – the old refrigerated bodies are often converted into robust expedition and camper vans today on account of their excellent insulation. As a new addition to WIKING’s line of model upgrades, the “Düdo” decked out in the company’s own “Seefische” design wins favour with a large crowd of enthusiasts. WIKING fans are well aware of the long tradition behind this self-promotion, as numerous examples have recently been introduced to collectors. The traditional model makers now complement these examples with a promotion of sea fish, serving as a remembrance of a popular WIKING advertisement that dates back five decades and became an integral part of WIKING’s line of model vehicle even in those early days. The refrigerated truck version of the “Düdo“ gives off the aura of a typical WIKING product thanks to the striking lettering and the catchy logo mark it brandishes on the cooler box.
