Flexibility that inspires: As recently as the 1960s, flatbeds were purchased primarily for their practical benefits in everyday use – a milestone for versatility in the transport sector. One prime example: The legendary Mercedes-Benz with a cubic driver’s cab. WIKING recognised the model-making potential of the then-new model series and immediately added the cubic generation to their selection of trucks after its factory premiere. The real-life brother of the model put functionality front and centre. The newcomer marked a deliberate departure from the curved shapes of the fifties and relied on a straightforward and functional design. Vertical walls provided an impressive amount of space in the cockpit. In a bid to achieve a perfect view and a modern look, Mercedes-Benz equipped the cab with huge glass surfaces and a windscreen washer system as standard. Another highlight was the vehicle’s space concept. As the COE cab sat immediately above the engine, the long chassis was graced with an exceedingly spacious loading area. This made it possible to load any cargo without effort and to fix in place with perfect security.
