Description:
The Magirus Deutz square hood, often affectionately referred to as the “Ulm Howler”, is still deemed the ultimate symbol of irrepressible brute force and robust German engineering in commercial vehicle construction. Especially the last production generation of this gargantuan square hood rose to the status of an indispensable hero of the towing and recovery service. While the automotive industry was already relying increasingly on comfortable cab-over-engine vehicles, many salvage companies stuck to the classic bonnet because it delivered impressive performance with its robust technology and enormous reliability under the toughest conditions. Beating as the heart of the vehicle was the legendary air-cooled Deutz diesel engine, which was not only responsible for its nickname with its characteristic, whistling operating noise, but also won over operators with its indestructibility under extreme strain. Whether deployed in the freezing cold in winter or operating at the limit during strenuous work - the Magirus rarely let its drivers down. Equipped with a massive crane superstructure, powerful winches and a ballast platform adapted to the chassis, it was able to safely recover wrecked heavy-duty trucks from ditches or from impassable accident sites. Visually, the vehicle was a true eye-catcher with its angular bonnet and the striking radiator grille, which bore the Ulm Minster cathedral as its trademark. Even though the end of the bonnet truck era was soon sealed by the introduction of more modern vehicle concepts, the Magirus bonnet truck is still fondly remembered by fans and model makers as a mobile monument of its age.

Driver's cab with wheel rims and flatbed yellow-orange, interior basalt grey, chassis with trailer coupling and cardan shaft red-brown. Rear fenders black-grey. Headlamp strip black. Radiator grille imprinted black-grey with silver Magirus logo and Magirus-Deutz lettering. Side door handles with outer fender strips along with step edges and handle black-grey. Tail lights red. Middle section, crane boom, and swivel base brown-red.
